DOWNS COMPELS STATE BOARD TO COMPLY WITH STATE’S OWN OPEN GOVERNMENT LAWS

In January 2019, Bryan Downs, along with co-counsel Amy Gellins, reached a negotiated settlement with the State of Georgia’s Immigration Enforcement Review Board. The resolution included consent orders being entered in two cases filed by Downs pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Act and Open Meetings Act. The consent orders invalidated prior actions taken by the IERB and required this State Board to adopt practices and procedures that would make its proceedings more transparent and in compliance with the State’s own “sunshine laws.” In addition, the Board was required to pay attorneys’ fees to the firm’s client.
