Andy Yates is counsel at Wilson, Morton & Downs. His practice focuses on state and local taxation, municipal law, and civil and business litigation.

Before joining the firm, Andy began his career at Alston & Bird LLP, where he specialized in state and local taxation and related controversy. He has represented clients before state courts, the Georgia Tax Tribunal, and state and local administrative agencies across the country. Andy has written and lectured on various aspects of state taxation.

Andy is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. He obtained a B.A. from Birmingham-Southern College. He later graduated with a Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, which brought him to the Atlanta area. After theology school, Andy worked in a church and was a member of a touring rock band. Andy received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law. He is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia, where he has served on the executive committee of the taxation section.

Andy lives in Decatur with his wife Janice and two children. They are active members of Decatur First United Methodist Church, where Andy serves on the master planning committee. He also serves on the board of Decatur Cooperative Ministry, a nonprofit agency combating homelessness in DeKalb County.
